For the PMR syllabus, students encountered equations of the form
ax + b = 0
where a,b are constants and x is a variable
Example :
x + 3 = 0
-9x – 7 = 0
Such equations are called linear equations
The highest power of the variable x is one.
Linear equations are easily solved by simple algebraic manipulations
Ex :
2x + 9 = 7
2x = -2
x = -1
We see that all linear equations have one solution, or one root.
Note : Root = Solution
